Constitution — A Reminder

The draft constitution consultation is open for two more weeks. So far engagement has been low, and we’d really encourage you to take a few minutes to read through and share your thoughts.

To put it plainly, right now the NPA doesn’t have a workable set of guidelines for how we operate as an association. Implementing the constitution will go a long way toward preventing (and resolving) uncertainty about how we function, now and for those who come after us.

Base Rules

We’re aware that the Western base rules, including how they’re set, how and when they change, and what consultation happens with your NPA representatives, are becoming a growing concern for members.

Much of what makes NCA work has historically relied on give-and-take between pilots and the Company; flexibility that’s valuable and worth preserving. What we want to better understand is whether base rules are being applied consistently across bases and pilots, or whether there are unintended consequences that create disparities depending on individual or group circumstances. We’d like your input to help build that picture.

If you have feedback or experiences to share, please log them via the feedback app (these are seen by your reps only and no names are given to the Company).

Commuting Costs

We know commuting costs vary across the membership. For those whose expenses go beyond the $1,800/month allowance, we’d like to understand the impact this is having. A few things worth telling us about:

• Are you having to fly back-to-back trips to make the allowance stretch?
• Does the schedule publication date affect your commute cost or your ability to request off days?
• Do ticket costs influence which airline or routing you choose?

If this applies to you, please share the details — and evidence where you have it — via the feedback app under the General section.

This week's themes • Layover hotels — gym access and condition is still the most common point, with crews asking for facilities that suit round-the-clock schedules, plus a room-availability issue at check-in. • Contract and agency — questions about how pilots are engaged and paid through agencies, and a wish for clearer visibility on what has been approved and paid. • Services — reports of reduced meal variety on board, and of ground transport too small for crews travelling with their bags. • Consultation — a question about how base-rules are introduced and whether crews are consulted first.
